The Director of the PMO is a senior leader responsible for building, scaling, and operating a high‑performing Project Management Office within a cybersecurity and compliance professional services environment. This is a player‑coach role—balancing hands‑on engagement in complex or high‑risk engagements while developing and enabling a geographically dispersed team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators.
This role partners closely with Delivery Teams and Practice Leaders to optimize utilization, proactively manage delivery and client risk, improve forecasting accuracy, and elevate overall client experience. The Director also serves as a key partner to Finance, ensuring disciplined execution of revenue recognition, forecasting, and financial governance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position will directly supervise and mentor members within the department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partner tightly with Delivery Leaders and Practice Leaders to:
- Plan and manage project capacity, utilization, and staffing alignment.
- Surface delivery risks early and drive mitigation strategies.
- Improve predictability of timelines, scope, and outcomes.
- Ensure consistent adoption of project management standards, tools, and best practices across
- Support onboarding of new services, methodologies, or delivery motions as the firm scales.
Client Management & Risk Oversight
- Partner tightly with Delivery and Sales Leader and serve as an escalation point for client‑facing delivery issues and at‑risk engagements.
- Coach PMs on effective client communication, expectation setting, and issue resolution.
- Enable strong governance practices including status reporting, and executive readouts
- Ensure high levels of client satisfaction while maintaining contractual and commercial discipline.
Forecasting, Utilization & Business Insight
- Own delivery forecasting in partnership with Practice Leaders and Finance, including:
- Resource demand and capacity forecasting
- Project velocity and completion risk
- Margin‑impacting delivery drivers
- Provide leadership with clear, actionable insights on delivery health, utilization trends, and risk exposure.
PMO Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing PMO team, including Project Managers and Project Coordinators across multiple geographies.
- Act as a player‑coach, directly supporting complex, high‑visibility, or escalated client engagements as needed.
- Establish clear role expectations, career paths, coaching rhythms, and performance standards for PMO team members.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and client‑centric delivery excellence.
Financial Partnership & Revenue Recognition
- Partner with Finance to ensure accurate and timely revenue recognition, aligned with project progress, milestones, and contractual terms.
- Support billing readiness, variance analysis, and resolution of revenue or margin discrepancies.
- Reinforce strong controls, documentation, and audit‑ready practices within the PMO.
PMO Governance & Scaling
- Define and continuously improve PMO governance, tools, and reporting standards.
- Ensure consistency while allowing flexibility for different client, regulatory, and service‑line needs.
- Contribute to firm‑wide operational maturity as the company scales geographically and by service offering.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:
- 10+ years of experience in project or program management within professional services, consulting, or technical delivery environments.
- 5+ years in people leadership, including managing and developing distributed teams.
- Demonstrated experience operating as a player‑coach in fast‑moving, client‑facing environments.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity, compliance, risk, or regulated service delivery (e.g., SOC, ISO, PCI, HIPAA, offensive security, etc.).
- Proven ability to partner cross‑functionally with Delivery, Practice Leaders, Finance, and Sales.
- Solid understanding of professional services economics—utilization, margins, forecasting, and revenue recognition.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to operate confidently at both executive and client‑leadership levels.
PREFERRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- PMP, PgMP, or similar certification.
- Experience supporting multiple service lines or practices within a consulting firm.
- Exposure to multi entity or cross border delivery (U.S. and Canada a plus).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional virtual remote work environment. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to stand and sit for prolonged periods. Specific vision abilities required include close and medium distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal sounds, distinguish sound as voice and communicate through human speech. This position requires the ability to routinely operate a keyboard, computer mouse, telephone, fax, scanner, copier, writing tools, scissors, and other standard office equipment. On an occasion, an employee will be asked to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
TRAVEL
Local and overnight travel up to 10% is expected for this position.
